Nag Tibba lies at an elevation of 3,048 meters in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas near Mussorie. The hill is also known for Serpent’s Hill as the name Nag Tibba means Nag(snake) and Tibba ( Hill). There is a temple of Nag Devta at the top where the local people or villagers offer prayers to the deity. Nag Tibba range comes under the three popular ranges of the Garhwal, others are the Dhauladhar and the Pir Panjal ranges.

The trek of Nag Tibba Hill offers great panoramic views of Bandarpooch ranges of the Himalayas towards the Yumontri side. The hill of Nag Tibba stands straight at 9,915ft tall in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is considered as an easy trek. The trek starts from a small village Pantwari which is located at an elevation of 4,642ft. It is known as the basecamp for Nag Tibba Trek. You will pass by beautiful mixed forests of oaks, pines, cedar, alpine, and deodars. From the Nag Tibba Basecamp, the trek moves further towards Nag Tibba Top. It will be a 2km hike to reach Nag Tibba top.

And from the top, enjoy the captivating views of the snow-clad mountains of the Garhwal and Himachal regions. You will also get a glimpse of Swargarohini, Bandarpooch, Srikanth, Black Peak, and many other peaks from Nag Tibba. You will also see the Kedarkantha peak in the north, Doon valley and the snow peaks of Changbagh.

The terrain is gentle and there are no steep sections of more than 5-10 minutes. Apart from the steep, Nag Tibba gives you a flavor of walking into the thick jungles and somewhere in ankle-deep snow.

The best time to do this trek is from December to March. The whole mountain gets covered with pristine white snow. The temperature at times goes as low as -7degrees. Most of the treks are closed in Winters due to heavy snow, but Nag Tibba is easily accessible. In summers the weather remains pleasant and you will be greeted by blossoms and greenery.

  • You can easily get food and water but it is advised to take a water bottle(2-3 liters) and keep some eatables with you like chikki, chocolates, energy bars, etc.
  • Inform prior to your family as there will be no network connectivity up there in the hills.
  • Mountain sickness is very common, so always take adequate breaks during the trek and keep yourself hydrated.
  • Keep a small medical kit with you having the necessary medicines.
  • Eat healthily and exercise daily prior 1 week to the trek.
  • Be nice to people and do not misbehave.
  • Follow the instruction of the place you are traveling to. Do not harm people’s intentions.

Transportation:

By Bus: The arrival point for this trek is Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh are well connected to the city. You can take a direct bus from Delhi and reach Dehradun. Then, a local bus or cab to reach Pantwari village.

By Train: You can take a direct train from Delhi and reach Dehradun railway station. Pantwari village is 33km away from the railway station. You can hire a taxi to reach the village.

By Airport: Direct flights are available from Delhi to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun.
